Watercolors by Celia Blanco

Tropical 17 × 11cm watercolor on FABRIANO ARTISTICO cold press paper I painted this for the August challenge from my Artist Daily friends on-line group. The photo was kindly provided by Kim Ty (check  out her blog   here ) . It is of a flower from the tropics,  unfortunately I ignore the name. I love the way the flower slowly turns from pink to deep purple. I enjoyed playing with the range of colors of the flower and the unusual shape. Thank you for the visit!

Evening Calla watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper 12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7" available I drew inspiration to paint from my little grocery store calla plant once again. I think I might have over-watered it because the flowers keep flopping down. I discovered afterwards that they don't require much water. It is funny how we, responding to the urge to nurture, have a tendency to hurt houseplants by over-watering. They actually do very well outdoors in this part of the world, I hope to start a pot full of them.  I decided to add a darker background to hopefully bring the pinks out from the flower. Inspired Serenity watercolor on paper 9".5 x 9".5/ 25 x 25 cm. Water lilies give a sense of serenity sitting on the water … of course you can't think of them and not think of Monet. I thought of him often while I painted this. I used a photo I took as reference of a water lily from a visit to a botanical garden. I love the play of light on the water, the contrast between the leaves and pale yellow flower. I had a bad cold last week and didn't feel like painting. When I don't have time to devote to painting, I love to draw “one line contour” drawings. It is a great way to learn to focus on observing a subject without getting caught up with a lot of rendering. They turn out rather funny but in a charming sort of way. I used some student grade Canson sheets and then added watercolor...well I couldn't keep away completely. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend!
