The inspiration for my painting is loosely based on a photo from an on-line art friend for our monthly art challenge. The tomato pin cushion brings back warm memories of my grandmother who always lovingly mended everything on demand for us. Basic sewing skills can be crucial to important relationships.

    You made a great still life arrangement and the buttons added the perfect finishing touch to the story it tells.
    I still have my mother's button box and toss in the little extra buttons which sometimes come with a blouse or shirt. Once in a while I have to use a needle and thread.

    I love this painting Celia!
    A gorgeous still life of such a simple task as mending and sewing, described with gorgeous colors and great objects...

    Lovely!!! It tells quite a story and I'm sure we can all relate to it. My mom had one of those strawberry pin cushions...and it seemed to always be out.

    Your painting is charming, Celia.
    The pin cushion...I bought my first one for a Girl Scout project using gingham fabric because the squares help us learn how to make even stitches. Thank you for helping to bring up the wonderful memory.

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Happy 2015!!

 Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. I wish all of you a joyful, creative year! Happy 2015!
