The Color Purple

"Purple Tulips" 10".5 x 14"/ 27 x 36 cm




I began this painting back in March and was hoping to have it finished by Easter ... well I'm a little late. I worked on it and in trying to imitate the purples in the photo it was just coming out terrible! I am even too embarassed to show you what level of horrible I achieved. I didn't want to give up so I wiped it out and started over. I'm happy with it enough now, I've discovered how difficult it is to work with the color purple. There's a lesson in every painting!

    You have completed,a lovely painting, even with the challenge of purple! I find it difficult to even photograph anything purple, it never comes out right. I like the Daniel Smith range of purple, they seem easier to use. Mrs A

    Celia, I agree about the difficuly in achieving the color purple.. I too have problems..That last post I put on my blog is purple, I added some alizarin to winsor violet, and it still wasn't what I wanted.
    Yours turned out very well...
    Leaving on a trip, but will be checking on all my friends' blogs..

    It may have been difficult, but the final result is really beautiful , and the background really enhances the flowers ! Wish you a nice weekend.

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Happy 2015!!

 Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. I wish all of you a joyful, creative year! Happy 2015!
