Just Peachy

"Just Peachy" watercolor on paper 9".5 x 9".5 inches / 24 x 24cm.

I find the DPW painting challenge a good place to turn to when you feel you are lacking a direction in what to paint. This week, the focus is on composition. There are a lot of excellent points on things to keep in mind which I tried to incorporate. You can check that out by clicking here. It's a delicious time of year as fas as fruit is concerned. I'm always attracted by the colors of fruit and it is difficult to try and present it in a unique way. I worked larger than life in order to play with the washes more. And the best part is eating my still life once it is all over!

I've included the full size images of the paintings from Master artists from last weeks hand "quiz". Have a great weekend!

  7. Preciosa acuarela, Celia. Tonos perfectos, increibles colores. Parece que la fruta se hubiera fijado en ellos para vestirse. Felicidades!

  11. The colors are beautiful, Celia, and also the solidity of the peaches: they have real volume!
I'm ashamed I was wrong in all my guesses about the hands--even more so when I see the famous paintings they're from!

It's Not Just For Guacamole

It's Not Just for Guacamole watercolor on paper 35.5x51cm.  I hope everyone's New Year is off to a great start! I started this painting last year and set it aside for a while.  I worked from a cell phone image I took while preparing breakfast. My work as it progressed, below... My favorite way to eat avocado is on toast with a poached egg, I sketched it after Christmas. It keeps me full until lunch time.

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Parsley

Parsley watercolor on Garza Papel paper 20x14 cm. 300 grs Parsley is my favorite herb, I always keep a pot close to my kitchen. It is an interesting subject to improve leaf painting skills. I did minimal prelimanary drawing to keep the painting spontaneous. I focused on layering the shapes and observing the fresh colors in front of me.  I found parsley leaves fun to paint and instrumental in gaining more awareness and control when painting leaves! working from life is always my favorite! finding the right mix of color I can't believe this is my 100th post. Thanks for stopping by!
