For a girl that likes blue...

My oldest daughter, Sabrina, turned 17 this weekend. She had asked me to paint something for her room a while back. I thought her birthday would be a great time to make good on my promise. Blue has always been her favorite color even when she was a little girl. She also loves leopard print and make-up is her creative side. I combined all these things into a painting for her and surprised her on her birthday. She recognized the items I used. It's hard to please a 16 year old... a 17 year old maybe is worse!

    Aw, that's a wonderful gift from a mother to daughter. It will be cherished forever! You did a great job with it too! I like the composition, as well as the interest of all the objects, shapes and colors. Enjoy her last few teen years, they go by fast!

    A very striking and pretty painting Celia! I'm sure she will appreciate the thought that went into it. I hope she enjoyed her birthday. My youngest is nearly 17 so I know where you are at!
    I find my eye being particularly drawn to the make-up brush, love the shadows and texture.

    Very striking with wonderful color. I like the top of the gloss becoming part of the leopard pattern and the brush merging into its shadow. Clever!
    Pleasing any teenager is a feat but this does have a great contemporary flair.

Happy 2015!!

 Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. Pansies

 Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!
