I had to stay up late to paint both of these paintings. I hope to be on a better schedule next week.

I found a cork, remnants from our New Year's Eve party while cleaning up. I thought it funny that  my initials are on it. I love the texture of the cork and originally had  set out to paint only with sepia but ended up adding other colors.

The daisy is from a reference photo file. I take many photos at my inlaws' beautiful garden especially during the summer months with their garden is at its peak. I love the play of light against the dark of this composition.

On a great note, today I received an e-mail from Ken Bromley Art supplies. Earlier in December I volunteered to test their website. They awarded me £50 for helping, awesome gift! I can't wait to buy much needed supplies!

For now, the biggest challenge is keeping up with the uploading, photographing etc. I appreciate all your motivating comments!

    I like both of these. The one of the cork looks good with the added colors. I love the one of the daisy (my favorite flower)...nice color harmony with the yellow repeated in the background and the petals. Hope you pick out some good supplies. That is always fun!

    Love your work Celia! Love the cork! Imagine making a common cork a beautiful work of art! You did just that. Artists are certainly special people and each person is a special artist!
    Congratulations! Enjoy buying art supplies!
    Big snow storm in North East USA last couple of days. Almost two feet of snow and very cold! I love it!

    Celia, I had the same thought when cleaning up after New year's Eve--but I didn't do it. Seeing your delightful painting, I wish I had. These are both great: pure color, strong compositions.
    I find the "keeping up" with posting hard too, and am going to try to get a few days ahead.

    I hope you didn't throw the cork away, funny it has your initials, and I love how you painted it. The flower really sets me back in time dreaming of warmth and sunshine , so beautiful ! Keep up the good ( and hard ) work :-)

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Happy 2015!!

 Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. I wish all of you a joyful, creative year! Happy 2015!
