Days 25 through 28...

day 26
CAT NAP
watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper
12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7"
The photo reference I used came from Paint My Photo . It's always great practice to paint greyscale. I should really do this more often.

day 25
WINTERS ECHO
watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper
12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7"

day 27
SNOWY HORIZON
watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper
12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7"

Long cold shadows are what inspired me to paint both landscapes. The trees created interesting mirroring shapes on the snow in the early afternoon. I took the reference photo myself last year. My husband and I enjoy snowshoeing. It allows you to move away from the crowds and be lost in the woods. Of course, he has it all mapped out, I usually lag behind. I'm probably not the ideal hiking companion.

day 28
LAKESIDE WINTER
watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper
12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7"

I am striving to transmit strong grey shadows and muted colors near a lake in winter. Yet another photo from my reference file. I'm happy to be able to finally paint these images. Geese are funny  because they are aware of your presence and will always look at you if you try and get near them. The actual photo has many more geese but I decided to only paint two to avoid distracting the viewer.
I am now working on my last two paintings!!

Comments

  1. Four nice paintings Celia and for me the pick is Winters Echo for its colours and also abstractly feel to it. Your gray scale cat shows what happens when you get your values just right. Wish I did these too. I am on day 30 today already and have my pieces for last 3 days finished just need to the photographing etc. I am so glad this challenge has reached the end I feel a bit burned out! how about you?

  4. Celia - all of these are lovely - the cat of course is my favorite just simply because of the subject. I need to work in grey scales as well. I can see where when it comes to painting in color it would really help with the values. Good luck as you work your way to the end of this month. Take care.

I have just been catching up on your last few posts having been a bit sidetracked with my daughter's wisdom teeth operation and then a weekend away. All your work throughout the challenge has been fantastic - you're nearly at the finish line!! Good luck with the last couple!

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Happy 2015!!

Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. I wish all of you a joyful, creative year! Happy 2015!
