MY COLLAGE OF THE PAINTINGS COMPLETED: 3 DRAWINGS, 25 WATERCOLORS, 2 TOSSED

"Angel wing begonias" and "trumpet flowers" are my final paintings for the month. I worked on them together. "Heart wings" I started with the flowers and worked the background later. "Trumpet flowers" was the opposite. I'm always trying to see what works best. In the end, I'm discovering that it varies from painting to painting and there are no set of rules but just a lot of practice and more practice!

Funny how I started the challenge thinking it might be easier the second time around. I found it harder this time even if I had prepared my ideas, photos etc. I work on my artwork everyday, in some way, even if for only five minutes. I don't normally finish a painting every day, it took a lot of effort to do otherwise!
The greatest thing about participating in this challenge was seeing others work. It is a big inspiration and motivation to work along side so many talented people all on a common quest to become better painters.

Enormous gratitude to all of my art friends who encouraged and supported me along the way! Honestly, I could not have done it without your precious contribution!

  3. They're both lovely, lively. Trumpet flowers are one of my favorites.
I agree, each painting requires it's own approach; we have to just keep painting!

Abbraccio.

  11. These two florals make a grand finale to your challenge Celia! They are both beautiful! I was interested to hear that you found the challenge harder the second time around. Your paintings look stunning en masse in your collage. I love all of them but I think the candy cane and the primroses are my favourites. Do you think you will participate in a challenge again?

    1. I think I gave myself more difficult subject matter than last time and I paint slow. I appreciated your steady words of encouragement throughout the challenge!

  12. Well done Celia. I love your use of colour and also your unique compositions. Funny though as I know trumpet flowers as being white in the UK but I am no expert on these things. I prefer your lovely vibrant ones. :-)

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!
