Happy 2014!!!

DAY 1

 Little Darlings
watercolor on FABRIANO Artistico paper
12,5 x 18cm/ 5" x 7"
€30,00 unframed

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

I signed up for Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. It is my second time around, I think it's a great way to begin the year. Last year I signed up the day the challenge started, I am more prepared this year. I don't have a theme, I rather just paint what I enjoy and can create within the short time frame of a day. Additionally, I plan to post my daily work on my Facebook page and my website (which I finally started !). I will blog every few days, showing my progress with a few paintings at once.

Last year's first painting was a clementine. I thought it would be fun to see how I have progressed over the year by choosing the same subject.

I thank everyone once more for the support and kindness you show.  I hope this year will be one filled with much color and creativity!

  3. Great composition and color, Celia! Love the pink and orange together: yum! and the negative painting of the membrane is really wonderful too!
I fell off the 30 days challenge after only four days last time. Maybe I will try again.

    1. I didn't want to do the usual orange and green or blue but something with more of a color punch. I'm happy you like it, lets hope I manage to keep it up. It's never too late to start!

  5. Though the one from last year is beautiful too, the new one is definitely my favorite, so much more freedom in the execution and in the color choice. You started the new year in the best of ways :-)

  8. This is really lovely. I love your color choice of the pink background with the orange clementine. The one from last year was nice, but you seem to have softened your look since last year and are using the watercolors to their advantage. Happy 2014!

    1. THank you Joan, it is one of the rare times that the idea in my head actually matched the outcome on paper.

  9. Good on you Celia for entering the challenge again! I love your painting and I also loved seeing it next to the one you did last year. You can see how you've really mastered the medium since last year, even though last year's was lovely too.
I had considered doing the January challenge but the thought only lasted a minute, it feels too recent since the September challenge so I may revisit when September comes around again. I'll be checking in to see how you are progressing. I really appreciated your wonderful support during my September challenge! Good luck!

  12. Celia!
The color in this magnificent piece is outstanding! A real 'Wow!" I love it when I look at a painting and I immediately fall in love with it! Such is the case with "Little Darlings!" This painting is wonderful! You use watercolor in the best way possible. I love your technique! Free! Colorful! Very creative!
    Excellent my friend!
Happy New Year to you and yours!
Big snow in my neck of the woods right now!!!!
    Paint on!

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!
