A Patio, the Greek way

Greek Patio
watercolor on Canson paper
6.5 x 9.5 inches / 16.5 x 23.5 cm
(If interested, you can purchase this painting through my website)

Let's fast forward to a hot summer day when you seek the welcoming solace of shady areas. Grab a chair and enjoy the view, especially if it looks over the Mediterranean sea.

I seem to be attracted to outdoor patio furniture, I recently included it in a painting not long ago...I really love the idea of a cozy, snug space. I am also attracted by the geometric lines created by the chairs in contrast with the atmospheric landscape in the distance. It goes without saying, I wouldn't mind being in this painting this very moment (when is winter going to be over, anyway???)!

I would like to share my daughter's art homework. This is the first time she does a drawing of this nature. I'm biased, I know, but I modestly think she did a fantastic job!
Maybe an artist in the making?

Have a happy weekend, thank you for stopping by!

  5. A lovely painting Celia. I particularly love the shadows on the chair. I hope you are able to soon be sitting in such a scene!
DEFINITELY an artist in the making! What a fabulous drawing your daughter has done! She's obviously inherited her mother's talent! How wonderful to have such subject matter (ancient Roman columns) in your neighbourhood! When I visited Rome in my twenties I was blown away by the ancient ruins everywhere.

Even me, a lover of winter, is not thinking about spring! I have been hearing birds singing and even saw some green shoots sprouting up from the snow! Grow! Grow ! Grow! Take care Celeste!

  11. I noticed the strong lines of your patio painting right away too. It's a wonderful painting. The lines and composition, but also the colors, gradiating from blues to greens and every shade in between! Your daughter is going to be following in your footsteps as an excellent artist! Wow!

  12. Another lovely watercolor Celia. Love the colors and feels very fresh. As a former art teacher, I agree your daughters drawing show great abilities. How old is she and was it done from a photo or a day drawing at the Forum?

    1. My daughter is so happy to read your feedback, thank you!!!
She is 15 and in the second year of high school. They don't often have projects like this, mostly technical drawings which take no creativity and this is the first time she has had this type of assignment. She had to work from a copy of a master drawing which you can see it in the corner of the photo.

  14. No need to be biased Celia. Your daughter definitely did a fantastic job. Your snug little corner in the shade looks wonderful. I agree a great place to sit with a lovely long cool drink. Maybe also with your lovely painting on the wall to finish it off together with its gorgeous fresh colours to help cool us down. :-)

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
