Feeling Rosy

 A Rose
watercolor on Garza Papel paper 20x14 cm. 300 grs

I love observing the delicate temperature shifts within rose petals. There is always a little warm yellow among the pink which turns to a bit of blue. It's easier said than done to transfer it onto paper but at least I finally got the dust of my brushes!

I enjoyed using Garza Papel paper for the first time. The paper allows for smooth washes and it had a nice grain and absorbency. Delivery to my doorstep is an added plus! Thanks to my friend Bruce from The Art of Bruce for the suggestion!

I hope everyone is having a nice day and taking a little time to stop and smell the roses!

  3. Lovely job on the rose, and I like the addition of the yellow shading on the petal. If you look closely there is such a variety of unnoticed colors in each flower. Glad to see you have dusted off your brushes and are back painting!

  16. Celia this is beautiful!! You've captured all the blues and yellow so well giving your rose a lot of depth. Glad to see you are back behind the brush and feeling rosy again! I hope that means you are totally recovered now.
    Take care!

  17. Your watercolors are so beautiful, with the richness in your colors and the bold compositions. This rose draws the eye in and holds it captive for an extra moment. I can see your affection for the subject in the way you painted it.

  18. Aha, the Garza got there and you used it to your best advantage, quite nice. I love the recycled aspect of the paper, and free is such a deal for the samples. But I was so disappointed with it; the paper absorbed all the color, leaving nothing to reflect back the color and I felt I was working on mush. However I love trying new paper. And I'm bringing Italian Fabriano Artistico extra white 140 lb blocks to paint with when I'm soon in your Italy. And I have others to try too; so many papers, so little time; so many places, so little time.

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
