Parsley

Parsley
watercolor on Garza Papel paper 20x14 cm. 300 grs

Parsley is my favorite herb, I always keep a pot close to my kitchen. It is an interesting subject to improve leaf painting skills. I did minimal prelimanary drawing to keep the painting spontaneous. I focused on layering the shapes and observing the fresh colors in front of me.  I found parsley leaves fun to paint and instrumental in gaining more awareness and control when painting leaves!

working from life is always my favorite!

finding the right mix of color

I can't believe this is my 100th post. Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Dear Celia - what a wonderful post...you really nailed those shades of green...great exercise that I must try. Parsley is suppose to be very healthy and I always grow it in my garden (just need to remember to pot some up for winter and bring indoors - never seem to remember (LOL)! Thank you for sharing - hope you are feeling much better now. Hugs

  15. Parsley . . .

    colors flowed down the page,
    the greens, yellows, blues, and
    more, alighting on the
    deep rich leaf far below,
with a blue and pink to
    draw the eye down there too;
    who knew parsley could taste
    flavorful for the eyes?

    (And on Garza paper,
you did so well with it,
    leaving me quite impressed.)

  16. Congratulations on the 100 posts. Every one of them has been gorgeous too! I like the greens and blues and how you've blended them so happily together. I think it would be wonderful to have fresh herbs growing on the windowsills, but you have to have the special gift for that, I'm convinced. And I don't have it! Beautiful painting Celia!

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
