Vine ripe tomatoes and herbs

Vine Ripe
 watercolor on Fabriano Artistico paper
9" x 12"/ 23 x 30,5 cm

These tomatoes are from my father-in-law’s garden. We had an unusually cold summer which killed many of the plants but the few that survived are now giving him a nice crop. I am always happy to be a recipient of a basket of his fruits, assorted herbs are also welcome, if present. Who doesn't appreciate the “just picked from the vine” flavor?  Naturally I love to capture all that goodness on paper, I cannot resist the juicy red colors.

While on the subject of JUICY colors...my blogging friend, Laura Leeder, was one of my choices for last week's "blog hop around the world". I hope you take the time to pay her a visit and see her elegant still-life’s and florals. One look at her incredible ability with color and you will understand why I am such a big fan of her work!

I hope you are all well and thank you for the visit!

  1. Fantastic watercolor, Celia. The color of these tomatos are beautiful. I have a few tomatoes left and will miss when no more fruits are left on the vine.

    Gros bisous♡

  15. I love the blue you chose to set off the red and green so well. I think it makes the whole painting much richer than the typical red with only green

  16. Hi Celia, I find your tomatoes so yummy. They seem to be lying nearby a window thus the blue sky. I 'm never sure if I must call them fruits or vegetables, so I just enjoy them . Almost everyday.! Your aquarella shows great finesse Celia. Hugs

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
