Yellow Peppers

 Yellow Peppers
watercolor on paper
28 x 20 cm./ 11" x 8 "

I hope everyone had a nice summer/ winter (for those of you in the southern hemisphere).

I have worked a lot in my sketchbook despite not sharing much of what is in it. The sketches led me to paint these peppers. I was attracted by the varying cold and warm yellows in the peppers and the plate itself makes for an interesting play of light with the colors. I love to paint what surrounds me.

Thanks for taking interest in my work!

  11. I'm in awe of the way you put those colors in just the right places, Celia. I would imagine with watercolor, there is not much room for error, you have to be confident in what you're doing, with each touch of the brush. You do that so beautifully!

  12. Your peppers are exquisite Celia - and I love the electric blue background!
I'm part of a small embroidery group and it was my turn to host it today - I made red pepper soup!
They were large shiney red peppers and I thought what great subjects they would be to paint!

  16. I LOVE this Celia! You've really caught the gloss of their skins. Do Italians call peppers capsicums? That is what we call them here in Australia and for some reason I've always thought it was the Italian word for them.

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
