Every Day in May update of my sketches

Day 9. Something with an interesting label...I chose a bottle of rum I've saved for many years because I love the label ( and also the rum).

Day 10. Something you can turn on/off...I love to bake. My hand held blender should be used less often. We never go without baked goods in my house. I am experimenting using a nib pen and ink, without drawing first.

Day 11. A hat, cap or other headgear...I collect caps. This is my favorite and I love the added bonus of a bear wearing his hat too! I painted the shape first with watercolor, then added the ink. No pencil, still enjoying the ink and nib pen technique.

Day 12. Some stairs or steps...I can't survive without this step ladder. I wish I were a little taller, this helps me a lot around the house. Ink and nib pen, no pencil.

Day 16. Ingredients for a favorite recipe...my marriage is still alive thanks to this recipe (21 years ...). It is a family favorite! I returned to my tried and true watercolor.

Days 13 through 15-I will hopefully have them next time. I got behind and missed a few days.

This week I won a most beautiful card from my dear friend Laura Leeder. I never receive nice things in the mail anymore, only bills ... one can imagine how special this feels! She is as lovely as her artwork, please pay her a visit!

Thank you for the support and patience with all this back log of sketches!
Have a wonderful week!

  1. Seem like you got the hang of the fountain pen and ink right away. Lovely!

  2. I'm glad you are posting these here too. With the multitude of posts on the EDM FB page, I often don't get to notice when you post...after a while they become a blur, especially when some appear more than once. You nailed the color of the rum bottle and the highlights on the glass! Great job on the cap too!

  8. All of these are great, but of all things, I keep going back to the mixer. I think you did an amazing job on the beaters - they look as if they are moving.

  10. Those are lovely sketches but I like the colorful ingredients for your spaghetti recipe. I also love to sketch and I am envious that you can do it everyday. Thanks for sharing those sketches.

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
