Sketching Every Day in May

1. A FAVORITE FOOD

I have been very bad about blogging as of late, I wanted to share this sooner. I signed on for a drawing challenge for the month of May. Everyday we have a theme to work on in our sketchbooks and we share our work on a group board on Facebook or Flickr. It is a lot of fun because you are pushed to sketch something you normally would not otherwise do. I also love the sense of community: seeing what other people come up with is a great inspiration.

2. A NEARBY TREE

3. CURTAINS
4.BOTTLE OF HERBS OR SPICE

5.SOMETHING HOT
8.SOMETHING WITH A HANDLE

I would like to wish all 's a wonderful Mother's Day!

  1. Happy Mother's Day, Celia! It is good to see your sketches for EDM here too. There are so many posts on the FB page each day that often I can't find the ones by people I actually know. lol It is always a fun challenge to be a part of. You did a great job on the expresso pot with all the triangular shapes on the top. I don't drink expresso but always wanted to have a pot to use in paintings and sketches. lol Enjoy your day!

    1. Thanks Joan! I'm so happy to be doing this challenge along with you! I always start out thinking it's not going to take me that long to sketch but then yes it did drive me crazy trying to draw the little triangular shapes.

  3. I am enjoying the challenge too Celia and glad that there are familiar blogging friends in the Group like yourself. It is fun seeing what everyone creates everyday with the same prompt. Your sketches are all lovely especially the coffee pot. It brings back lovely memories of Italy. Happy sketching.

African Violets

African violets sketchbook page I painted this sketch slowly, over a few day's time.  I use my sketchbook to experiment towards improving my skills although I seem to always find myself in a hurry to finish the sketches. It took my African Violets over two years to bloom, I felt compelled to capture this achievement! The flu is making the rounds around my household once more, I hope everyone else is well!

Pansies

Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!

Flying Colors

"Flying Colors" 28.5 x 20cm / 11" x  8"in.  I love the color of this blue jay's feathers and its stance, so graceful ... the various blues were hard to imitate. I am working on leaving more white areas in my painting and loosening up a bit. Thank you to Mim White for allowing me to use her photo! When I saw her photograph, I immediately imagined it as a watercolor painting.
