I would like to share my sketches for the month of May. I followed the topics provided for sketching  by the "Every day in May" group. It is always a fun challenge to sketch things I would not normally think of, such as a suitcase or a bucket. It is especially inspiring to see other participants come up with inspiring sketches on the same theme.
Crazy springtime weather that felt more like winter got us all sick in my household, I missed a week as I was trying to catch up; I still managed to finish most of the sketches nonetheless.




My favorite sketch from the month






The sketch that was the most frustrating and took me hours! 




The sketch that took me the shortest time but still happy about it.




I didn't want to sketch a suitcase but in the end it was fun. Great lesson in keeping an open mind!

My personal goal was to be quicker about my sketching, abandoning the pencil for the pen and ink sketches.  I felt that by the end of the challenge I had managed to improve and grow.

 I am in the middle of a work in progress and hope to be able to share it soon!

      Thank you Maywyn! There is a list for Every day in June on FB, actually they have two lists with different themes. I know one is a Beatles theme which sounds fun...I am stopping while I'm ahead.

    Congrats on finishing your sketches. The good thing about the list is we sketch things that are sometimes out of our comfort zone or things we would never sketch if given the choice. Glad you got to use different materials for some of them. Nice work for the month. It is fun to see them grouped all together. I had hoped to do a collage of mine, but haven't yet...don't know if I will get to it.

      Very true, I had a hard time with a few I really didn't want to do. Then you see what everyone comes up with and you feel stupid for not trying.

    I have enjoyed your Every Day sketches. Looking at the selection it is hard to pick a favorite but the center one - game of E D May looks really complex and fascinating.

Happy 2015!!

 Clementine watercolor on paper  20x14 cm.   I am very excited to start off the new year because of the opportunity to focus on what lies ahead. My  goals for the coming months include many positive wishes!  I have written out a physical list for the first time in my sketchbook  to be able to draw a balance at the end. My first painting of the year is a clementine. The contrasting colors and the long shapes of the leaves  are always fun to paint; the fruit's taste is definitively delicious and brightens the dreary winter. I wish all of you a joyful, creative year! Happy 2015!

Pansies

 Pansies with Lemon  watercolor on cold pressed Daler Rowney paper  10" x 10" / 25 x 25 cm.  Available I wished to paint the happy faces of the pansies I planted earlier in the fall. They are hardy plants, lasting through the winter on my balcony. Soon I will have to pull them out and replace them with petunias or begonias, but not for another month. I love the different shades of purple and had fun mixing my own. I hope everyone is having a nice week!
